The city of Dickson Parks and Recreation Department manages, maintains and operates eight park facilities throughout the city.
The department’s main office is at 202 S. Main St., next to the Municipal Building. The phone number is 446-1721.
Park facilities include the W.A. Crosby Recreation Complex, J. Dan Buckner Park, Tennsco Park, Lakeview Park, Rocky Top Park, Railroad Street Park, Tice’s Springs Park and Luther Lake.

W.A. Crosby Recreation Complex
Located on Highway 47 inside the Dickson County Fairgrounds, this facility has a gymnasium and game rooms. It is named for former Dickson Mayor William A. Crosby.
Each morning during the cold weather season, the gym is open for walkers at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday During the afternoon hours, the gym is open for freeplay activities from 1pm-5pm Monday through Saturday
This complex is also the home of the Little Pro Basketball Association and has been for four years. The league is for children ages 6-12. Every year, this association moves up one age group. This fundamentals program is for boys and girls. The city of Dickson Parks and Recreation Department helps sponsor the Little Pro Basketball traveling team, which is the 10-12 age group. The Youth Basketball Instructional Program meets at Centennial Elementary on Mondays and Saturdays.
The Crosby Recreation Complex is the home of the Over 35 Basketball Association. This league was started in 1987 at the Crosby Center. The league plays games on Monday nights at Centennial Elementary.
The complex is also the home of the Co-ed Recreational Volleyball League which started in 1986 with only five teams and now has grown to 12 teams. Games are played at the Crosby Center on Monday and Thursday nights.
The Women’s Basketball League plays at the Crosby Center on Monday nights. This league is for women ages 18 and up.
The Special Olympics basketball tournament is held each year at the Crosby Recreation Complex in February for the past five years.
The Crosby Center also is the site of many activities for clients of Developmental Services of Dickson County.
In February 1998, the Crosby Recreation Complex began a new Jazzercise program.

J. Dan Buckner Park
Located on Weaver Drive off of U.S. 70 West, this multipurpose park is name for former Dickson Mayor J. Dan Buckner.

Buckner Park is home to the Dickson County Youth Athletic Association, which provides a quality baseball/softball program for boys and girls up to age 18.
The DCYAA manages a t-ball, ragball, baseball and softball program for children ages 5-18. Each year more than 400 children participate in league activities that begin in April and run through July. Signups are held in the Rotary Pavilion in January and February. You can call the Parks Dept for more details. Games are played at Buckner Park.
The Dickson County Soccer Association manages a soccer program for players of all ages from five to adult. There are spring and fall seasons. Signups are held in January and August. Games are played at Buckner Park.
The swimming pool at Buckner Park opens the Saturday before Memorial Day and closes on Labor Day. The pool is open Wed thru Sat 10 a.m.-6 p.m. but is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. It also is available for rental during the season. For more information, contact the park office at 446-1721.
Each year the staff at the Buckner Park Pool teaches swimming lessons to children and adults and conducts water safety classes. Call the park office for class times and dates beginning the last week of May.
Buckner Park has six lighted tennis courts. The courts are available for free use seven days a week from sunrise to 10 p.m.
There is a paved walking and running track around the soccer fields. This is the safest and most convenient place to exercise outdoors in the park system.
There is a warm-up exercise station, parking, restrooms and a shelter with picnic tables, telephone and the track is well lighted. The track is open 24 hours a day every day. There is an unlit natural-surface walking trail around the lake.
There are two batting cages in the park. There are two pitching machines available with balls for public use that can be reserved at no cost by calling the park office between April 1 and Oct. 31.
The lake at Buckner Park is stocked with fish, the lake banks are maintained for easy access, and it’s open year-round for fishing and wildlife viewing and there is no fee for fishing.
There is a new playground at Buckner Park with a rubberized safety surface that meets or exceeds all national playground safety standards. It has shaded picnic tables, cooking grills and trash cans. The area is open year-round from sunrise to 10 p.m.
Buckner Park also has two more picnic areas with tables and grills. One is located at the tennis courts and the other’s across the parking lot from the pool.
There is plenty of green space in Buckner Park for people who want to relax in the shade, loaf, and sunbathe, throw a ball or Frisbee, fly a kite, pick blackberries or look for wildflowers.
If you want to shoot some hoops or challenge your friends to a sand court volleyball game, you can find both opportunities near the swimming pool.
Tennsco Park
Located on Tennsco Drive in the Dickson County Industrial Park, this $3 million facility was built and leased to the city by Tennsco Corp., the county’s largest industrial employer. Tennsco founder and Chairman Lester D. Speyer said the park is his company’s way of thanking people of Dickson County for the 30 plus years of success Tennsco has enjoyed here.

The Tennsco Softball Complex is the home of the Dickson County Adult Softball Association which consists of several different leagues such as men’s, women’s, co-ed, church and others. It also is the site of various softball tournaments.
Lakeview Park
Located off West Walnut Street on Lakeview Drive in West Dickson, this park overlooks City Lake. It features four lighted basketball goals, a lighted sand volleyball court, a playground with safety sand surface, grills and a large picnic shelter with tables and restrooms. The park is available for reservation at no charge by calling 446-1721.
Luther Lake
Located on U.S. 70 East next to Colonial Village, the city oversees this 14-acre man-made lake which is popular for walking, jogging, running, fishing, and wildlife watching. A man-made island in the lake makes it popular for ducks and geese.
Railroad Street Park
Located in West Dickson off West Railroad Street, this park is a small picnic area with tables and grills and plenty of shade. It is available for use any time.
